I-75 Road Improvements

For over six years and counting, EHC has been awarded six projects for the improvement of I-75 across four counties in Florida. The projects have included expansions and improvements to the major Interstate Highway including bridges and exit ramps. The projects span a combined 24 miles and, once completed, EHC will have provided earthwork and infrastructure services for 33 miles of I-75 since 2011. The Astaldi Group, one of Italy’s leading General Contractors, and among Europe’s top 25 firms in the construction industry, selected EHC for the most recent 16-mile road improvement project. EHC is providing excavation, embankment, finish grading, stabilized subgrade, and base as well as temporary detours and access roads, and extensive berm and swale work. The FDOT reports that the improvements in this project consist of adding lanes and reconstruction, including bridge rehabilitation, milling and resurfacing, widening, base work, shoulder treatment, drainage improvements, curb and gutters, sidewalks, signing and pavement marking, signalization, intelligent transportation system components and lighting on in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties.

Terminal Access Road

Wright Construction awarded EHC the Terminal Access Road (TAR) widening project at the Southwest Florida International Airport (RWA) for the Lee County Port Authority. The project consisted of widening the Terminal Access Road to six lanes from Interstate 75 connector to Air Cargo Lane. It included added curbing, signage and markings, lighting, landscaping, permitting and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approvals. EHC provided earthwork, subgrade base, finish grading and erosion control for the project which was completed “ahead of schedule and with great coordination,” according to the Lee County Port Authority.

Pine Island Road Expansion

In concert with AJAX Paving and the Florida Department of Transportation, EHC provided a variety of earthwork services for the expansion of Pine Island Road, otherwise known as State Road 78, from Burnt Store Road to Chiquita Boulevard. EHC services included 170,000 cubic yards of lake and road excavation, stabilized subgrade and finish grading. Upon project completion, the road was converted from a two-lane road to a four-lane road and serves as the main arterial in mid Cape Coral. An outside four-foot paved bike lane, 46-foot grass median separating eastbound and westbound lanes, stormwater ponds, and roadside swales were also included in the project. The goal of the expansion is to facilitate more businesses, investment, and overall growth in the area by providing better access to Cape Coral. In addition, the two-mile project helps with hurricane evacuations.

US 41 and CR 951 Intersection Improvements

Community Asphalt chose EHC to perform earthwork and infrastructure services for the US 41 and CR 951 intersection improvements in Naples. Services include excavation, embankment, demolition, stabilized subgrade and base for the approximately three-mile project. The well-traveled intersection is a primary access point for traffic in Collier County and is an important corridor in the Collier County Emergency Management Department’s evaluation network. Therefore, the project has required a tremendous amount of coordination between Collier County Department of Transportation, Florida Department of Transportation, vendors and of course traffic for the addition and widening of turn lanes, reconfiguring of the intersection and phased work. Accommodating future growth and improving safety is essential for the intersection project.
